Frequently asked questions.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Free covers the household books and the trips you share. What it is limited to is being decided. [D2]
Do my friends need an account?
To see their balance, yes: an invitation creates one for them. A traveller who does not want an account can be recorded as part of your travel party instead, and their share lands on your account.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser and can be added to your home screen as an app. Phone and laptop are both first-class.
Which currencies?
A trip is kept in one base currency and each expense is recorded in the currency it was paid in, converted once at a rate you record. Your own home currency is shown beside figures as a guide and is never added up.
Can a guest on my trip see my household?
No. A household and a trip are separate rooms; someone invited to your trip never sees your household's books.
Can I edit an expense?
Not in place. A mistake is voided and a corrected entry added, and both stay visible. Small things like a name or a category can be changed through a change request.
Why does my share show one cent more?
When a bill cannot be split exactly, one person carries the odd cent. The trip chooses who, by a rule it sets, and every expense shows which rule placed its cents. See the name story on the about page.
Where is my data stored?
[D4] The security page will say where, once the host is decided.
Can I export everything?
Household transactions, trip expenses and settlements export as CSV with the currency code on every line. A full personal data export is planned. [step 36]
How do I delete my account?
From the application, once the deletion flow is built; until then by writing to the privacy address. What stays afterwards is on the data requests page.
Is there a Windows or Mac app?
No. Closestify runs in the browser and can be added to your home screen or desktop from there.
Do you have an API?
No.
