About Closestify.
Closestify is a shared-finance product: household books for the people who live together, and trip expenses for the people who travel together. It is made by a small company and used daily by its makers.
Where it comes from.
It began as the books for one household and the trips that household took with friends. The hard parts came first: balances that always add up to zero, money that is never stored as a floating-point number, records that are voided and corrected rather than edited, exchange rates frozen at the moment they were used. Those are the parts most finance apps never get right, and they are the parts you cannot see on a landing page. The rest of the product grew around them.
The name.
"Closestify" was the name of a setting before it was the name of the product. When a bill cannot be split exactly, the app cuts it into whole cents so that every share is within one cent of fair and the shares add up to the total; the trip chooses who carries the odd cent. The setting was called Closestify, closest-ify, because that is what it does: it brings a split as close to fair as whole cents allow. The product took the name because that is what the whole product tries to do.
What we will not do.
- We will not sell or share your data with advertisers. There are no advertising or analytics cookies in the product or on this site.
- We will not make a free plan that punishes the thing the product is for. Limits are on how many households, trips and files you keep, never on how many expenses you record.
- We will not lock a feature that you need to put a record right. Correcting a mistake, voiding an entry and applying an approved change are never behind a plan.
- We will not describe a security control we have not built. The security page says what exists today.
